Angels in the Knight, Part 1

That sound resonated throughout the bleak and gloomy underbelly of the city. For days now, it had poured onto the streets, pelting the humans with its harsh coldness. Against the rooftops, the noise reminded one of sand stinging the tiles as they hit. No sane human would dare to come out during this time. Even the strays took cover in the cardboard boxes of the pavements. However, there were some who couldn’t escape this weather, some who didn’t have a choice. And there were some who hungered for the warm flesh to fill their veins.

A lone man stood atop a towering building, his handsome, youthful face frowning gently. The frown suddenly curled back into a snarl, and he damned the One God for making the world so miserable. He was craving blood, although he had just eaten. The kill was stale to his mouth, a prostitute who was high and drunk, and a bitter after taste clung to his sharp daemon teeth. His crystal blue eyes rose to the clouds above, and his snarl increased. He remembered living there, with the others and their pure ways. He remembered what his teachers had taught him, what he felt in his soul as he sucked up their knowledge like a sponge, but then…but then he began to question. Question the One God and the teachings of…everything.

The eyes closed, the white hair clinging to cool flesh, and memories rose to the surface. He wanted to leave that holy place, that place of no pain or sorrow. He wanted to experience Earth, to know what humans went through, to feel as they did. It is forbidden. Others tried to stop him, but he had become insane with the need to get out of there. It was a cage to him. That’s when it happened. His power was used to kill another of his kind. The blood splattered the once gentle face, now lined with insanity. At first, he was horrified at what he had done, but then…then the blood dripped into his mouth and he swallowed it, and enjoyed it. From what he had done, he was flung into the daemon world, where he was beaten and raped and taught all that was evil and pleasurable. He changed from purity to cold hearted evil. That had been nearly a thousand years ago.

Light filtered through the orbs as they opened once more. Emitting the sites into his mind, he leapt from the building and landed safely onto the streets below.

“Are you sure that you are ready for this task?”

“I am sure Master. I will revert him back to the old ways, I promise!”

“Then go with my blessings, and be careful.”

The youth bowed his golden head and walked out from the great room with a sense of duty. The golden halls shimmered with a heavenly light as others of his kind stood or sat along the walls, all of them waiting to speak with Him. Most waved merrily to him and he returned the waves with a warm smile that extended to his amethyst eyes. He unfurled his wings and made to his home, sucking up large amounts of delicious sunlight into his bronze colored skin. Helios felt good to him, and he found himself floating lazily on the Zephyr wind, feeling like a lover that had just been satisfied. His cheeks rose in a cherry color because of his thoughts. He had never been with another before, and he doubted he ever would. His soul was the purist among the Kingdom, and a feeling of pride swelled up inside him, but he quickly put that aside as he flew towards his home.

‘Pride, that’s a deadly sin!’ he thought as he landed, ‘I must repent before I depart from here.’

Kneeling onto the polished wooden floor, he clasped his hands together, closing his eyes in meditation and began to beg for forgiveness. Done with his task after a few hours, he began to set out towards the gates. As he flew there, he stopped short, his robes fluttering about him, and looked behind him. One of his friends was calling out to him.

“Malik! Wait!” he cried as he waved his hand towards him. Catching his breath as he caught up, he smiled at Malik, his spiky hair wiggling slightly.

“Yugi! Have you come to see me off?” Malik asked his friend.

“Yes, I was afraid that I had missed you. God told me that you were praying just now, and that you would leave to Earth on a mission. Will you tell me?”

“Tell you? About what my mission is?”

“Yes! I truly wish to know what it is!”

Malik laughed at Yugi, who merely smiled at him, but then grew serious.

“I am sorry Yugi, but I cannot tell. Our Master has instructed me to do so, but now I must leave.”

“Please be careful!”

“I promise.”

The two of them embraced quickly, and then Malik dove through the Gates, plunging towards the Earth and its painful emotions. Above, Yugi watched with sad eyes as a small tear slid down his gentle face.
